THE EFFECTS ON FAMILY MEMBERS OVER GENERATIONS

It is done!! I completed my dissertation project, have successfully jumped through all hoops to complete
my PhD, and received my Doctor of Philosophy degree in the summer of 2008. I have finally posted the PDF file to a host
site (Drop.io) where people can access this manuscript and download it to read and/or print on their own computers. Over
150 stories from over 100 participants were included in the project so it is not a quick read (total: 221 pages). At
the right are some suggestions for those who wish to read only the portions dealing with stories they have submitted . . .

Link for Family Folklore Dissertation by Jean Marie Wilcox Hibben, PhD
While the entire
work is provided through the link above, specific stories of the families of the submitters are found in the final
chapter (5) entitled "Discussion." While this chapter begins on page 72 of the dissertation, due
to the preliminary pages, it actually starts on page 80 of the manuscript. Stories are interspersed as applicable
and, in a few cases, a single story or family history is likely to appear more than once, so keep reading to find all the
references to your own ancestors (or use CTRL-F to employ the "find" option and enter your ancestor's surname).
I need also to add that academic terms, with different meanings to the general public, are applied throughout and,
to get a complete understanding of those terms, please refer to chapter 1 - the background of the "problem." This project is unusual in many ways and some of
the findings may give insights into the value of family folklore for the maintenance of people's connections to their
own heritage.
